we do live in a postcolonial society. imho should that be true. but is that a reason for reproducing smybols of the ‘wild’ and ‘fascinating’ continent of africa???

two recent examples:

>the german magazine ‘Der Spiegel’ brought out a new number titled: “Afrika
Der Fluch des Paradieses” tr: Africa, The curse of paradise.

the topic is about africa as its ‘own’ destroying its ‘own’ myth by civil wars. seemingly they are disappointed that the ‘africans’ stopped living like they want it to be. this is pictured by the kilimandscharo and in front the savannah with a few elephants and on top of that a few black soldiers.
articles are named “Alptraum Afrika” tr: Nightmare Africa and a interview over the “Elend des Schwarzen Kontinents” tr: Misery of the black Continent.

>the belgian chocolate-brand ‘Côte d’Or’ brought a tv commercial over their chocolate.
in there you see elephants and a savannah and furthermore black people dressed like on colonial postcards or in ‘Hagenbecks Zoo’, Hamburg in the first german reichs (even later). the camera switches back to the elephants.

seeing that i ask my self:
where is the necessary difference between animals and human beings?
why is the occidental ‘fascination’ of ‘Africa’ bigger than the respect of people living in africa as ordinary citizens?
shouldnt africa be accepted as a continent among others?

since a while i am advicing you to activate a commentfunction on your blog. but you are not-then i have to do it here.

i mean i like your blog and the most funny and serious things that you are wrting there, but sometimes i cannot stand it:

you want to stay at home in your sooo hated ulgy dresden than protesting against the g8 summit in northtern germany.

well, of course i do not agree with the most people protesting there but i think they are not that stupid to protest at a meeting with that big publicity…
if they all protest in right way or for good purposes- is another question.

but YOU are not leaving your homeland. watching ‘Tatort’ at the home-fireplace should save the world then!
